The German potato that just left

In 2022, at 24 years old, I decided to start Solo Traveling. I’d never taken a gap year or anything like that before, so going straight into a full-time 9-to-5 after university felt… wrong. I didn’t want my life to fall into routines before I’d even experienced something truly exciting. So from one day to the next, I left everything behind — my home, my long-term relationship, my friends. And honestly? It was the best decision I’ve ever made.

Don’t get me wrong — it wasn’t all picture-perfect “Instagram moments.” I went through plenty of lows, questioned everything, and had to learn how to actually be alone with myself without distractions. But once I overcame that, my world opened up: traveling, new cultures, volunteering, connecting with people from all over the globe. I started to appreciate the small things again, and I’m still grateful every single day that I booked that flight — because it truly changed my life.
