I Thought I Would Love Japanese Food, I Was Wrong.

Japan is famous for having “the best food in the world” and I fully believed the hype.

Plot twist: as a vegetarian, the reality is way less magical. In this episode I talk about what eating plant-based in Japan actually looks like, from konbini survival meals (yes, I became an umeboshi onigiri person) to the moment a “vegetarian menu” literally served me meat.

This isn’t a Japan hate episode. I love living here, just not because of the food. I’ll share what helped me the most, why cooking saved my sanity, and the one Asian cuisine that genuinely feels like paradise for vegans and vegetarians.

If you’re vegetarian or vegan in Japan, tell me your go-to meals and places you actually trust.
